"A special opportunity to strengthen cooperation": Guillermo Francos received U.S. congressmen

While the National Government is negotiating with the United States Treasury for a loan to strengthen reserves, Chief of StaffGuillermo Francos received a delegation of U.S. congressmen at the Casa Rosada. According to Francos, the meeting addressed " the reforms the country needs and the importance of maintaining balanced public accounts ."
" This exchange was a vital opportunity to strengthen cooperation with a nation with which we share common values and goals ," Francos said via his X account after the meeting. The congressional delegation was led by Vern Buchanan, vice president of the Ways and Means Commission, which oversees taxes, tariffs, and trade; as well as Heidi Gómez Rápalo, acting chargé d'affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Argentina.
The rest of the delegation included Representatives Claudia Tenney, Greg Murphy, Nicole Malliotakis, Andy Ogles , and Norma Torres ; Derek Luyten , Executive Director of the House Democracy Partnership; Chase Babair , Legislative Director for the House of Representatives; and Colby Harriman, Legislative Director and Foreign Policy Officer for Representative Dina Titus's Office.

During the meeting, both countries addressed " various aspects inherent to the bilateral relationship between the two countries, highlighting the importance of Argentina as a strategic ally of the United States in South America ." In this context, the Chief of Staff referred to U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and thanked him for his support of Argentina, primarily for the upcoming loan.
"Also highlighted was the consolidation of Argentina's fiscal balance, while progress in deregulation and debureaucratization of the State was analyzed, in addition to the significant influence of the Large Investment Incentive Regime (RIGI) as a mechanism to promote capital inflows," they added.
As part of this rapprochement with the Donald Trump administration, President Javier Milei briefly visited the meeting to greet US legislators, before traveling to the United States. On this occasion, the Argentine president is scheduled to meet with Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu , and Kristalina Georgieva , director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), in the United States. He is also scheduled to speak at the United Nations General Debate.
